Process Intensification in Bio-Ethanol Production–Recent Developments in Membrane Separation

Ethanol is considered as a renewable transport fuels and demand expected to grow. In this work, trends related bio-ethanol production are described using Thailand an example. Developments on high-temperature fermentation membrane technologies also explained. This study focuses the application of membranes in ethanol recovery after fermentation. A preliminary simulation was performed compare different process configurations concentrate 10 wt% 99.5 membranes. addition significant energy reduction achieved by replacing azeotropic distillation with dehydration, employing ethanol-selective can further reduce demand. Silicalite type showing one highest permeation performances reported today. silicalite applied separate solution produced via followed single distillation. The influence contaminants properties required developments discussed.
